Departments of the MIT Libraries

Collection Services

Collection Services encompasses all functions related to acquiring and managing information resources in support of MIT's education and research programs. This includes selecting, acquiring, preserving, storing, and providing bibliographic access to the Libraries' physical collections of books, journals, manuscripts and archival materials, and a variety of non-print media. In addition, it includes licensing and managing access to a rapidly growing array of digital resources. The Associate Director for Collection Services is responsible for policy governing all areas of collection management and for the allocation and management of the information resources budget. Activities in support of the collections are carried out in four Collection Services departments:

Acquisitions and Licensing Services (ALS)
Cataloging and Metadata Services (CAMS)
• Collection Management Services (CMS)
Institute Archives and Special Collections

...and in a matrix relationship with Public Services (individual libraries) departments.
