Cataloging and Metadata Services (CAMS)
The Cataloging and Metadata Services (CAMS) department is responsible for cataloging serials and monographs, regardless of format, for the MIT Libraries, and for the integration, quality assurance, and general database management of Barton records created locally or provided by an external source. CAMS also provides metadata services to the Institute on a fee basis.
Cataloging and Metadata Services supports
the MIT Libraries in its efforts to provide "rapid, easy,
and precise [bibliographic] access" to the MIT Libraries' physical and virtual

Cataloging Unit:
The Monograph Cataloging Unit is responsible for
monographs in many formats in OCLC WorldCat.

Cataloging Section
The Serials Cataloging Section
is responsible for the cataloging
of serials in all formats for the
MIT Libraries. The section participates
in CONSER,
an international cooperative program
for cataloging serials, and adheres
to its standards for record creation
and maintenance.

- Special Collections Cataloging:
Special Collections Cataloging is responsible for the
creation of new catalog records for MIT theses, rare books, and technical
reports.

Maintenance:
The Database Maintenance Section is responsible for the
quality assurance and holdings maintenance of Barton records
and assists with the integration and management of external
source records in Barton. The section handles all vendor
and system-generated reports related to bibliographic
and authority record quality control.
