Book Scanners in the MIT Libraries

New self-service book scanners are now available in the MIT Libraries. These scanners are available for all library visitors to use instead of photocopying or printing, at no cost, and will allow easy scanning of most library materials.

Scanner Locations:

Barker Engineering Library, 1 scanner on the 5th floor, near the Service Desk
Dewey Management and Social Sciences, 1 scanner near the Circulation desk
Science, 1 scanner on the first floor, near the Reference desk
Rotch Architecture and Planning, 1 scanner near the Circulation desk

Scanner Capabilities:

Scan bound or flat originals in full color, grayscale, and black & white modes
Scanner resolution goes up to 400 ppi/dpi in color
Scanner bed can accommodate materials up to 17x 24 inches

Output Options:

Save images from the scanner in various file formats: PDF, JPEG, PNG, and more
Send image files via email; save to a USB flash drive
USB flash drives are sold at library service desks for $7 each

During busy times, please limit your scanning to a few pages at a time for scholarly purposes, for the sake of others who may be waiting.
All library users must comply with the Guidelines for Use of the MIT Libraries and the Computer Use Policy.
In general, library workstations are not equipped with image manipulation software. Members of the MIT community can visit the New Media Center to access workstations with multimedia production capabilities.
