Vera - Virtual Electronic Resource Access Access to all the MIT Libraries' electronic resources -- databases and ejournals.
Use databases to find articles and some property information.
Electronic books, such as handbooks and encyclopedias, can be used as a starting point for your research.
Web Of Science (1973-present)
Web version of Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index and Science Citation Index; covers 5,300 major Science and Engineering journals, 1,700 Social Science journals and 1,100 Arts and Humanities journals. Major feature: Cited reference searching retrieves papers that have referenced earlier works by a specific author.
Compendex (1980-present)
Provides abstracts and full bibliographic citations for journal articles, conferences and reports in all engineering fields; covers worldwide engineering and technical literature as well as related fields in science and management. Online equivalent to Engineering Index.
SciFinder Scholar (1907-present)
SciFinder Scholar offers access to "Chemical Abstracts" including the CAS Registry file, with over 22 million substances, and the CAPlus file, which includes patents an conference proceedings and is th most comprehensive database of all chemical literature. You can also search Medline using the SciFinder Scholar interface, combining detailed chemical information with medical literature. Install SciFinder Scholar onto your PC or Mac within MIT IP domains by following the Installation instructions or contact the Chemistry Librarian (kajosalo@mit.edu) for assistance.
Medline/PubMed (1966-present)
Complete MEDLINE database, 1966-present. Enhanced with links to GenBank and other protein and nucleotide sequencing databases. Also provides relate references. These features unique to this version of MEDLINE. Databas indexes more than 3500 journals in biomedical research, neurosciences and clinical medicine.
Engineered Materials Abstracts
The growing importance of polymers, ceramics, and composites in a variety of structural and other advanced applications requires the in-depth coverage provided by Engineered Materials Abstracts (EMA). Citations regarding the research, manufacturing practices, properties and applications of these materials have been taken from 1,300 journals, plus dissertations, government reports, conference proceedings, and books.
BIOSIS Previews
Covers journals, conferences and reports in major biological fields including biochemistry, bioengineering and biophysics, ecology and environment from 1964 onwards.
Chemsources Online
Online version of the print resource, offers chemical sourcing information with all pertinent contact information, and includes the products of more than 8,000 chemical firms spanning 135 countries. The Chemical Section lists over 250,000 chemical compounds; more than 150,000 of these chemicals currently have CAS Registry Numbers® and over 60,000 have formulas. The Trade Name and Classified Sections lists over 25,000 Chemical Trade names. Searchable in three main categories: the Chemical database, the Application database and the Supplier database
NTIS (1970-present)
Produced by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) database is the major resource for locating U.S. Government-sponsored research reports and studies in the physical sciences, technology, engineering, biological sciences medicine and health sciences, agriculture, and social sciences. It also contains the results of government-sponsored research an development from countries outside the U.S.
CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics
Online version of the famous CRC handbook.
